Rise N Learn – The Addiction Dance: Learning to Lead

Riveredge Hospital and the Community Mental Health Board of Oak Park Township are committed to prioritizing the health and safety of our community during the COVID-19 pandemic. To comply with social distancing, we have transitioned our workshops to a virtual format, utilizing the Zoom platform.

2 CE credits for LPCs, LCPCs, LSWs, LCSWs
This presentation will provide a brief historical overview of addiction and current trends as well as highlight how recovery is possible within the stages of change model. This interactive presentation will be given from the perspective of individuals in recovery who will lead us through the “dance of addiction” while infusing lessons of hope, empathy, and compassion for us all.
Learning objectives:
  • Understand the historical and cultural aspects of addiction treatment in the US
  • Identify the stages of change model of overcoming addiction
  • Discuss what to do and what NOT to do when approaching and helping individuals with addictions and/or mental illnesses
  • Identify tools and resources to support individuals who are seeking help
