Oak Park Township Recognized by the Government Finance Officers Association
for FY2020 Budget
Oak Park Township has received the Government Finance Officers Association (GFOA) Distinguished Budget Presentation Award. This year the Township was recognized for its Fiscal Year 2020 budget for April 1st, 2019 to March 31st, 2020. It is the 16th time that this Distinguished Budget Presentation Award has been given to the Township.
Oak Park Township has received a GFOA award each year since 2003 for its budget presentation except for 2019 which was a transition year. The GFOA sets nationally recognized guidelines for effective budget presentation, and it is the highest form of recognition in governmental budgeting. The Township’s budget was rated as “proficient” in the following four categories as well as the fourteen mandatory criteria within those categories. The budget is assessed on how well it serves as:
- a policy document
- a financial plan
- an operations guide
- a communications device
Openness and accountability to the public are always important. Especially now, in these times of added human need due to financial stresses, the Township’s stable funding, cost-effective services and public accounting are of special importance. The GFOA awards are an assurance to the Oak Park taxpayer that the Township’s finances are in good order and easily accessible for inspection.
