Township Updates for April 1, 2020
Effective April 1, 2020
Oak Park Township Provides Essential Services
Thank you to the many volunteers and community partnerships assisting our staff to serve residents in need. We are continuing to provide services by telephone and tele-conference in our departments of Youth Services, Senior Services, General Assistance and Assessor Services. Most of our staff are working remotely.
Older adults who have requested meals are receiving them every other week in the form of shelf stable and frozen nutritionally balanced meals; as of last Friday, we have modified our congregate “take-out” service. With the help of staff and pre-screened volunteers, we are limiting face-to-face contact with others out of health concerns for everyone. We have seen a steady increase in inquiries for home-delivered meals, and older adult residents of Oak Park and River Forest may call (708) 383-8060 to make arrangements. For schedules and updates, please see our Senior Services webpage at https://oakparktownship.org/senior-services/.
Volunteer Opportunities
Transportation for older adults to dialysis and important medical appointments may be scheduled by calling (708) 383-4806. In addition, we are running errands for older adults including pick-up and delivery of grocery items with the help of our staff and volunteers. We have created, in partnership with the Park District of Oak Park, an on-line portal for volunteers to sign up to help us meet the essential needs of seniors. If interested in volunteering with Oak Park Township Senior Services, please go to the Oak Park COVID-19 Community Response Volunteer Interest survey at https://bit.ly/399p9zW.
Other Township Services and Resource Guide
Administrative staff, the Assessor’s Office, and General Assistance staff are providing information, assistance and referrals over the phone. Youth Services and Senior Services are in contact with the individuals and families with which they work, and are offering assistance to our community partners.
The Community Mental Health Board has created a resource guide available at this link: bit.ly/oprfguide. It lists many agencies and organizations offering health and wellness services throughout the area or via phone and text.
If you or someone you know is in need of Township services, please call 708-383-8005 for Administrative Services, General Assistance or the Assessor’s Office, 708-383-8060 for Senior Services, 708-383-4806 for Transportation or 708-622-8535 for Youth Services.
