Your Influence is a Super Power!

The Oak Park River Forest Workgroup for Positive Youth Development (PYD) is counting on you to:

Help Reduce Underage Drinking

In 2016, 30% of Oak Park and River Forest 8th-12th graders reported that they consumed alcohol in the past 30 days, at rates consistently above the state average. Through your actions and attitudes about the health risks associated with underage drinking, you can play an active role in lowering that figure! (Illinois Youth Survey)

Support the Positive Youth Development Workgroup

There are plenty of ways to get involved. In the coming months, we will be expanding our base of community members who are interested in sharing from their expertise and experience to bolster our efforts to serve teenagers in both Oak Park and River Forest.

Help Us Spread the Word

Our communication campaign throughout Oak Park and River Forest kicked off in September, and we will be rolling out a variety of messages that educate and empower parents, youths, and all community members. By sharing the facts and dispelling the myths about underage drinking, we will raise the community’s awareness of the many benefits that flow from our teens making healthy choices about alcohol.

But we can’t do it alone—your influence, through your involvement and help in spreading these vital messages, truly is a super power!

The Oak Park River Forest Workgroup for Positive Youth Development (PYD) includes parents, educators, law enforcement officials and many youth-serving organizations whose focus is on positive youth development. The group offers practical insight and guidance that informs the Township’s identification and implementation of prevention strategies that support youth in making choices that lead to healthy, alcohol-free lives.
