Under a new law taking effect this year, veterans of the US Armed Forces who were severely wounded while serving their country will no longer be required to pay property taxes in Illinois.

Artist Maurice Costello presents "The Making of A Family"

Oak Park Township is exhibiting the work of Maurice Costello, local area artist.  Maurice has a degree in Art Education and a Masters in Fine Arts.  He spent his career teaching in the Indiana Public school system.  This work, “The Making of a Family” is an annual chronicle of his grandchildren. The six piece series are acrylic painted portraits on hardboard which represent a very realistic view of the growing children.

Senior Property Tax Deferral Deadline is March 1st, 2016

Senior Citizens seeking tax relief can defer up to $5,000
in property taxes this year

Senior citizens struggling with property taxes can defer payment of their property taxes until their homes or condominiums are sold.  According to Oak Park Township Assessor Ali ElSaffar, the Senior Citizen Tax Deferral Program allows seniors to defer as much as $5,000 of their property tax bill every year.


Senior Property Tax Exemption Renewal Forms Due February 3rd, 2016

all seniors must apply to renew their exemptions

Oak Park residents sixty-five years of age or older should receive renewal forms for senior citizen property tax exemptions this week, and will have until February 3 to file them.  Local seniors should feel free to call the office of Oak Park Township Assessor Ali ElSaffar for help completing the forms.

The deadline to register for the 2016 Presidential Primary Election is Tuesday, February 16th. Voter registration for residents who have changed addresses or new residents is available at the Oak Park Township from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday – Friday as well as Village Hall, 123 Madison St. and the main branch of the Oak Park Public Library, 834 Lake St.
