Seniors Seeking Tax Relief Can Defer

SENIOR CITIZENS SEEKING TAX RELIEF CAN DEFER UP TO $5,000 IN PROPERTY TAXES PER YEAR

Senior citizens struggling with property taxes can defer payment of their property taxes until their homes or condominiums are sold. According to Oak Park Township Assessor Ali ElSaffar, the Senior Citizen Tax Deferral Program allows seniors to defer as much as $5,000 of their property tax bill every year.

Oak Park senior citizens received renewal applications for senior citizen property tax exemptions earlier this week, and will have until February 5 to return them to the Cook County Assessor’s office. Local senior citizens should feel free to call the office of Oak Park Township Assessor Ali ElSaffar for help completing the forms.

Senior Services Receives TOI Innovation Award

 The Illinois Township Association of Senior Citizens Services Committee accepts nominations for the annual "Committment to Senior Services Awards". Oak Park property owners concerned about their property taxes have an opportunity to do something about next year’s tax bills. According to Oak Park Township Assessor Ali ElSaffar, Oak Park property owners can appeal their 2013 assessed values with the Cook County Board of Review between August 5 and September 3. The township is offering residents two ways to get help in filing an appeal.

Oak Park property owners concerned about their property taxes will have an opportunity to do something about next year’s tax bills on July 23. According to Oak Park Township Assessor Ali ElSaffar, the Cook County Board of Review will conduct a forum about filing property tax appeals for Oak Park property owners at 6:30 PM on Tuesday, July 23 in the auditorium at Percy Julian Middle School, 416 S. Ridgeland Avenue.

Second Installment of 2012 Property Taxes due August 1

The second installment of 2012 property tax bills arrived in the mailboxes of Oak Park residents in the first week of July, and will be due August 1.

The second installment of Cook County property tax bills will be mailed in late June and should be due August 1. This marks the second consecutive year that tax bills will have a mid-summer due date, according to Oak Park Township Assessor Ali ElSaffar.
